ah new year's eve...baking pastille de tres leches cake, amish sugar cookies, and chocolate chip cookies tonight. everybody wants a hat like my bro's LOL. taking donations for yarn purchase.. >_<
finished my bro's hat...it turned out a lot bigger than i thought it would. so it turned out rastafari. :)

blocked his hat and my nephew's today using a damp towel placed on top and ironed it.

Sunday, December 28, 2003

started my bro's hat in biggy print cookie using the pattern flip from the rowan's big easy. getting used to using big knitting needles this past week after finding them very intimidating!

i used my clover bamboo single points in US sz. 15 for my last hat (mini) and now my pony pearls in US sz. 19 for the current hat (flip) i am working on.

i've added a list of books that i have in my craft library!

my god...ROTK was worth the wait! I can't wait for the collector's edition to come out. ^__^ all i can say is that i was glued to my seat the entire time of the film.

i would love to see this movie again. it has been an amazing three years! it has been a christmas tradition in the last three years for my husband and i, my sister jer and her husband q, my brother jayce, my brother-in-law's little brother josh and two cousins: gil and erin to see the LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy at christmas time. now that it's officially over, we wonder what will top off this magnificent trilogy for next year's christmas movie.

enjoy ROTK. it was worth it. :)

Thursday, December 25, 2003

merry christmas all. :) i hope that you are getting everything that you wish for! ^___^

finished the mini today and it's now my nephew's. now i just have to press it to finish the item. i now plan to finish that embroidered knit coin purse in the next couple of days. :) i feel like i'm on a roll. lol

i just found out that my little niece has just taken a liking to her brother's hat. her brother now says that its hers. lol so i guess i have to knit another one lol. i've finally started on another project with chunky knit: a beanie using the pattern mini by kim hargreaves for rowan bigger picture, using big wool in pip.

valerie from allthingskawaii has some great links that she sends out on her mailing list! there is always something new. :) join her list and check out :

learned how to make an i-cord with dpns. finished my nephew's hat this past weekend. it was a hat knitted flat on US 8 straight needles in stockinette stitch until 10" inches in length, seams were sewn up in the back until it formed a tube, then the top was bunched up like a paper bag, and tied up with an i-cord in some kind of topknot. it somewhat looks like the i-cord hat made by linda on planetshoup, except that the i-cord is separate from the body of the hat and the hat itself was stitched flat. i tied the i-cord tight around the top so a young child would not be able to slip the knot off the hat.

stitchguide.com is a very helpful site for new learners.

eventually, i would like to post a learning tutorial from my experiences as a new knitter for those who would like to learn, as well as some of my own patterns with pictures. :)

bleah, my embroidered coin purse is going to be redone. it was a first project gone bad. done in my first attempts in learning the garter stitch...will be done over in stockinette and have a garter stitch border.

happy turkey day everyone! ^_^
gah, stress...and here comes thanksgiving. :P baking pumpkin pies! no fleas on the kitty anymore...thank goodness. i've been designated live-in caretaker of my mom for the next month. *sigh* but, that's okay.

2003 is ending pretty soon. hopefully next year will be much easier and better. :P my mom broke her leg last week at her house and is now in the hospital. it's pretty terrible. been at her house for an entire week since the accident caring for her and trying to deal with my dad. no access to a computer in the past week until today.

my husband, i, my sister, and her family visited my mom today at the hospital. i believe that being at the hospital more than twice a year for an operation is very bad. :( but, all in all my mom is an amazing woman...she was in very good spirits.

just found out today that my cat has fleas. LOL she broke out of the house like last week through an screenless window. freaked out looking for her and saw her outside in the backyard. she didn't know the neighborhood at all,so pretty much she got scared. i carried her into the house. bought flea shampoo for my cat and hope that i killed all those little bloodsuckers. thank goodness that they weren't too active!

as for my knitting, i hope to finish my nephew's hat sometime this week.

yesterday, my bro turned 18. bleah, you realize that time flies really fast. dave and i got a marble chiffon cake with buttercream frosting for my bro at goldilocks, a filipino bakery/caf place. gosh the frosting... it was so rich and buttery..yummy!

a relevation of sorts dawned on me as my bro blew out his candles.

i look at myself, my sister's kids...i notice how fast they are growing up (they're 2 going on 3 and 1 going on to 2)...i see my kitty...*sigh* i don't want her to grow old. :/ i'm trying not to get depressed. i want her to be around for a long time. 15+ human years if possible. god, i love my cat. she's my baby. i've had her like forever. and she still looks like a young cat.

dave wants to get us a new kitten some time in the near future. i would like that. so, cap-cap would have company. i think that it would be cool.

i tell yah it's best sometimes to think about the now and today than thinking how many years ahead. it's less depressing somehow. unless, you are planning to retire in grace. dave and i hope to retire in grace. :)

added a new background to tanpopo and somewhat different layout. :P

received my jersey nuigurumi book today air-mailed from JAPAN...it came with some stickers :), a nice handwritten postcard thanking me for my purchase and also a handwritten note on the packing list thanking me for my purchase as well. :) how's that for customer service!! i will be buying some more stuff from aranziaronzo again! ^_^

maybe i can make a rag doll of my kitty! :)

Saturday, November 8, 2003

..went shopping with my friend carolyn today...had fun just talking and hanging out.

i've given up on circular needles for now...lol...too much work i think. my nephew's hat isn't going to be stripety anymore..i am starting it flat and the garter stitches will be going vertically. it will be like a long pocket and then i will probably at some tassels at the corners. :) tassels are easy to do. ^_^ my mom's scarflet done in chinchilla will probably become a full scarf and not tuck into a slit in the middle. it's getting cold and i'm trying to accommodate everyone who i'm doing a project for..lol i've been lazy in the last few months. pretty bad, eh?

the other day i purchased this really cute book from aranziaronzo. it's called JERSEY NUIGURUMI (rag dolls). it has patterns where you can learn to make your own rag dolls of the characters.

this site is extremely cute!

...purchased more chinchilla from the fiberartsshop. still awaiting my order from the knitting garden. :P

puccaclub has cross-stitch patterns for you crafty people. you can put pucca, garo, and mio, garo's pet kitty, on anything you can get your hands on!

...just when you think i'm done... tada! someone has hello kitty craftiness! i got this link from kitty realm by means of googling. :P

true tahitian treat:

monoi de tahiti.

what is it?

Monoi oil is simply coconut oil refined to a cosmetic grade with a fragrance extracted from tropical flowers. This oil is the closest oil in nature to the oils found in your scalp and skin.

i've always seen this product in a travel agency window in downtown san francisco. so. i googled for it. this would be a nice present to give for a hawaiian theme party.

this lipbalm really rocks:

mama coco's hawaiian lip balm.

the mamacoco's site is temporarily not taking orders but ebubbles.com has some of it left as well as lipmedic.com.

i've got the Big Island Cocoa and Coconut Cream flavors. they go on really smooth and don't feel waxy at all. I got my stuff from ebubbles.com and they sent me some samples along with my order.

fragrance...

terranova fragrances have always been my fav. i have been looking for their products for a long time and did some searching on google. terranova also includes a list of online retailers.

i found terrranova on luckyscent.com and also, creative universe by beth terry. i love the creative universe- t. luckyscent also offers samples which are about 3-4 dollars a pop. so you get to try the scents and not feel so guilty about buying a whole bottle of something you don't like after a while. i'm totally guilty of that. the fragrances on this site are not found everywhere, which is a good thing. :)

i've gotten the samples from luckyscent and hope to purchase some big bottles of the stuff.

later on ...

went to a retirement party of a friend. she retired at 39...can you believe it?! it was totally fun.

adventures at the california culinary academy. o___O my attempt at higher learning and career building. that day i went to tour at the cca, i went craft shopping. i bought a lip balm kit from pearl art store in downtown sf. later on, i bought red heart black yarn, embroidery thread, and big cute flower and star buttons at beverly's. i went home and opened up the lip balm kit and found out one of the flavor vials was dried up and it was missing a label. emailed the company immediately. i got a response the next day. so i should be getting the stuff soon. i bought the thread in shades of blue to match the yarn used for my scarf and coin purse. i'm going to probably embroider flowers on both. the coin purse uses a large flower button as a closure. i will probably have pictures scanned of the purse and possibly a pattern if the end product turns out well. i forgot to mention the yarn brand i am currently using is caron sayelle in williamsburg blue. the thread i believe is dmc. this past weekend i finally went to michael's and bought more 2 sayelle yarn in slate blue (caron perfect match) in the one pound size. slate blue and williamsburg blue are the same, which was totally cool. :) thanks to my hubby for being good to me heehee.
sunday: said yes to applying to cca for the july session. turning in the application on wednesday. good luck to me.

Thursday, January 16, 2003

yesterday i went to the cca. i was very early honestly about 40 minutes. i didn't want to be late.i met with ray. he was really nice and we talked for a while about what i wanted to do and i gave my honest answers in the actual person-person interview. he was very impressed by my answers and we found out a lot of common ground. it was really great...ray then gave me a tour of the facilities. really nice. i was amazed at everything: the smells, the environment...and i thought, "wow, i could be doing this...and why didn't i figure this out sooner...." sometimes you have to listen to your gut feelings....as i was talking with ray, i realized that i could be doing this as a living and not just as a hobby. my family had been encouraging me to get into culinary school in the past, and in my mind, that thought had always lingered there. the thought of having my own bakery and creating a product that a lot of people would enjoy was really getting to me. but the timing couldn't have been more strange....the proverbial ball had started rolling.and now i have to make a decision that would change my life and create a profession i could possibly be proud of....already two had been made...dave taking broker classes, he and i getting married.sitting in the admissions office as ray and i spoke of my chances of getting in, i felt awed and at the same time scared. ray told me i had a great chance of getting in and so he had to write up a proposal to get me admitted, in fact he wanted to get me in that day and have me start by march. i would jump at this chance if i could but i didn't have the money and i wanted to get the positive support of my family before anything was set in stone. ray understood that and gave me until sunday to make a decision. we'll see...

Tuesday, January 14, 2003

well it's about 9:20pm PST...i'm at home with my cat. my husband has customs brokerage classes and won't be back until about 10:30ish...i made arrangements earlier this afternoon to visit the california culinary academy and check out the facilities tomorrow and check out the facilities tomorrow with one of their national admission reps, ray, about 1pm tomorrow. he seems really nice and initially impressed by the initial phone interview.
